Dayron Vera

Portrait Photographer

My name is Dayron Vera, former ballet dancer, now a photographer based in Barcelona, Spain. I started my ballet studies in 1996, at the age of 10. In 2001 I continue my studies at the National Ballet School in Havana, becoming a professional ballet dancer in 2004. Joining the National Ballet of Cuba where I reach the category of Principal Dancer with 23 years old. In 2010 I moved to Europe to dance as a principal dancer next to Angel Corella and his company in Spain.

Photography came in my live in a very natural way, while I was waiting to dance behind courting, I started to take picture to my fellow dancers and it become a passion, so I started to get deeper in portrait because I wanted to represent those dancers in a very personal way. Today all turn around the person I have in front my lens, light has been a key, because allow me to created an specific mood for each subject, not matter if it is a dancer or not. Now, I don’t dance anymore physically, it all happens between me and the person I have in front of me. Photography has become the only way to express what I am feeling inside of me.
